Washing your hair is soooo overrated

Let’s be honest. Washing your hair sucks! Ok, well, maybe not the actual washing part; but the blowdrying, the styling, the products, blah blah blah…
While I am really happy that I have a thick mane, I am not happy with how long it takes to dry that mop! Who has time for that nonsense?!
So, what do you do when you don’t have the time or the patience to deal with it??

Let me introduce you to my lil’ fren…(done in my very best Pacino voice).
Now, I have been in the beauty industry for over 20 years. If you ask me about products, I will always always always recommend a professional product. ALWAYS!!!
Yet, here we are…sitting and staring at the exception to the rule.
I have tried several professional brands of dry shampoo and have not liked them near as much as my beloved Batiste. Some actually have left my hair looking greasier than it started out, while others just…I dunno…I just didn’t like them.
The original formula is my favorite. The smell is clean and light, but not so light that it doesn’t mask the increasingly funky smell my hair gets after 3+ days of avoiding the shampoo bowl. They do make other formulas with much stronger scents to them.
“But Kelly, what about dark hair? Won’t it make it look white?” The answer to that: nope! I used to color my hair the absolute blackest of black ever known to man! Just hold the can a bit further away (maybe 8 inches?) and use those fingers and your brush to make it all disappear!
For those of you with a fringy bang; dry shampoo is the perfect tool to have in your arsenal. Those fringy little suckers tend to look greasy way before the rest of your hair. Spray a little magic potion in there and you are ready to roll!
It adds volume, it adds texture, it erases the grease slick, it smells good…it is just the bomb dot com, baby!

So now, here is the original formula’s little cousins. And not the cousins that you looked forward to seeing every Christmas. We are talking the annoying ones that your parents forced you to hang out with.
What they are is a tinted version of the original. Many people complained of the “white dusty” look their darker hair got with the original; so I think these were the company’s answer to that? I dunno. I haven’t done lunch with them lately…
If you use this and your scalp needs a little scratch throughout the day, or if you run your fingers through your hair a lot, be ready to have tinted fingertips and fingernails. I like to fluff my hair at the scalp now and then. Or, if it is a windy day outside, I like to rearrange it when I get back inside. I found that doing this with the tinted formula left me heading to the bathroom to wash the color off of my fingertips. And if it is raining out…forget about it!
Now, what I DO like about these tinted formulas, is the effect they have on very thin hair. I have a few clients who have such thin hair. We are talking, you can see their scalp through it. We have found that using the tinted spray (in moderation, not as a can of spray paint) helps give their hair an illusion of more fullness. This does have to be worked through much much more, as to not leave their scalp blotchy with color.

So there you have it! The first of my many favorite beauty products!
And hey, if you are like me and avoid the shampoo bowl like the plague — well, hello! You are my soulmate.
